ABIGAIL B., 2009
Based on an early 1800s Andreas Voit doll
Andreas Voit was one of the Thuringian dollmakers who created maché head dolls in the early 19th century, beginning in 1806 until his death in 1837. His factory employed around fifty people and continued on after his death. TheThuringia Forest is in Germany, and Voit's era is known as the Thuringian period of dollmaking. Today Voit dolls are highly prized by collectors for their unique and delicate beauty.
Abigail B. is 37 inches tall and is dressed in a lovely deep red and gold garment that depicts the 1830s. Attached to the front is a beautiful piece of old lace, merely tacked on so it may be removed for a simpler look.
Abigail wears pantalets and a petticoat. The petticoat is from a vintage white garment that was not salvageable. She wears knit stockings and authentic antique shoes once worn by a child. One of the shoes is missing a button, but I felt it necessary to just leave it as it is.
Abigail has the traditional black, swirled hair of this vintage and her eyes are typically a soft taupe-brown.
