MIRABELLE

A Primitive Stump Doll

It’s a delight for me to behold some of the very early facsimile dolls that our ancestors created out of next to nothing. The common stump doll was one such style, and often was created from the stump of a small tree, hence its name. I’ve created Mirabelle in the true stump-doll fashion, but from cloth stuffed with fabric scraps. She’s dressed in early fabric scraps and I’ve aged her quite realistically, if I do say so myself. There was quite a raggedy hole in her skirt that I patched in the wonderful old-fashioned style of mending. Mirabelle is twelve inches tall and makes a charming ~ and effective ~ doorstop.
